TI TECH SUMMIT 2014

TI Tech Summit 2014 Was good again this year. I saw quite a few of my former students who were also attending, along with a couple of my customers.
The session that impressed me the most was where they were demonstrating their new inductive sensors. Why?
  • No magnets
  • Contactless
  • Remote placement of the sensors
  • Digital output
  • You can use inductors or loops of wires as the sensor. Basically any shape and size you want.

WRAP UP OF FTF

FTF was great! I learned quite a bit and enjoyed my time here at FTF. For the closing speaker we had Dean Kamen, and it was very interesting. You can watch the keynote and other FTF videos for yourself if you would like.

NEW RCP MODULES

Freescale announced that they have a new RCP module that combines a Kinetis K20 MCU, a 802.11n radio, and 59 discrete components in a single 10x10x1mm RCP module. They said that all you need to do is provide power and an antenna, and it will work. The also said that the module is certified, and in most applications the product can have the certification pass along.

CODEWARRIOR IS GOING AWAY?

Down here at FTF, Freescale announced that they are releasing the Kinetis Design Studio IDE. It will support C and C++ with no code size limitations, all for free. CodeWarrior will still be used for their other processor lines, but Kinetis/ARM support will stagnate in CodeWarrior.

GETTING READY FOR FTF 2014

I am looking forward to attending Freescale Technology Forum 2014 in a few days. It is taking place April 8-11, 2014, in Dallas, at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. According to Freescale, it is one of the most comprehensive embedded ecosystems in the industry, featuring four days of in-depth training, workshops and demonstrations from Freescale and its ecosystem partners.
